At a time on television when there were just about soapy dramas and saas-bahu sagas to watch, there came a youth based show called ‘Miley Jab Hum Tum’. It started in September 2008 and was one of the most successful shows of Star One at the time, ruling the roost for almost two years. It’s not just the show but also its characters Nupur, Gunjan, Samrat and Mayank who won the hearts of quite a few teens.
The storyline was a simple one that revolved around these two small town sisters Gunjan and Nupur from central India who come to the big city Mumbai to study. The love stories of these two girls formed the crux of the show. It was an interestingly told story of ‘opposites attract’. The college dude Samrat, falls for the shy and unassuming Gunjan; while the spitfire sister Nupur, clashes in a love-hate relationship with the studious Mayank.
The cute love story of Samrat-Gunjan, ran parallel to the spicy Nupur-Mayank banter. Both had their loyal audiences. With its eclectic mix of two sweet love stories, songs, friendships, events, tears and drama, MJHT made inroads into the hearts of India’s content starved youth audiences.
More than 500 episodes of the show having been aired and also a Second Season to its credit surely speak volumes of how popular the show was! Even now, after so many years of the show having gone off-air, umpteen numbers of fan mails and messages on social networking sites continue to flood Sunshine’s inboxes. The audience is still asking for more!
